Over the past twenty-five years, Poland’s anti-gender movement has evolved from a marginal transnational import to one of the most institutionally embedded in Europe. The World Congress of Families in Warsaw in 2007 and the founding of Ordo Iuris in 2013 — both rooted in international networks — seeded the movement that PiS turned into state policy from 2015. The period 2019–2023 marked peak intensity: LGBT-free zones covering a third of Polish territory, a near-total abortion ban through judicial capture, state media and funding weaponised against civil society. The October 2023 government change brought partial correction — repealing the zones, discontinuing prosecutions, auditing the Justice Fund — but without reversing the abortion ban or unlocking same-sex recognition. The election of a PiS-backed president in 2025 has reinstated structural blocking, suggesting the movement has durably embedded itself in Polish institutional architecture regardless of which coalition holds the executive.
